FAQs

What types of foil are best for foil pack dinners?

Heavy-duty aluminum foil is the best choice for foil pack dinners because it’s less likely to tear and holds up well during grilling or baking.

Can I cook foil packs on the stovetop?

While foil packs are typically cooked on a grill, in the oven, or over a campfire, you can cook them on the stovetop with a large skillet on medium heat, flipping the pack halfway through.

How do I prevent foil packs from leaking?

I honestly haven’t had leaking too much, but I never say never!

To make sure your foil packets don’t leak, double-wrap the foil packs or use an extra layer of heavy-duty foil on just the bottom.

Making sure you crimp/seal the edges really well also keep leaks from happening.

Can I make foil pack dinners ahead of time?

Yes, you can prep foil packs ahead of time and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours before cooking. This is how I get some camping meals put together ahead of time!

If I leave the meat out while prepping, I can let the veggies and sauces co-mingle for a few days and then toss in the meat when ready to cook.

Do foil packs cook evenly?

Yes, foil packs typically cook evenly as long as ingredients are cut into similar sizes and arranged in a single layer.

The only time I worry about overcooking is over the grill or fire, where things may not be over the heat as consistently.

Just rotate things frequently and check that the heat source is under the food for the most part.

Final Thoughts

Foil dinners are one of my simple mom hacks for making delicious, low-effort meals that don’t break the bank or take all night to cook.

Whether it’s a family weeknight dinner or a campfire meal, these foil are incredibly easy to prepare and make cleanup a breeze.

With just a few ingredients and minimal prep time, you could have a satisfying dinner on the table in no time, thanks to these foil dinners!
