This easy homemade pumpkin pie spice is perfect for all your fall-inspired recipes and everyday treats.

Pumpkin Pie Spice is one of those spices that you spend $6 on, and it just sits in your cupboard and goes bad before you know it. But it doesn’t have to be this way!

Since we’re all about saving money here, I wanted to share with you a pumpkin pie spice mix that uses items in your pantry that you already have.

You can use it in place of pumpkin pie spice blend in any recipe, and it’s a much cheaper alternative!

Key Takeaways

  • Cook Time: 5 minutes
  • Main Ingredients: Ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves
  • Servings: 20+ (depends on recipes and how many you make!)
  • Extras: Add this pumpkin pie seasoning to applesauce, make Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, or stir into your coffee for a PSL!

Inexpensive Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe

As a busy mom, finding time to whip up something that’s both easy and practical is key. Seasonings are one of the easier things to make at home to get even easier meals!

This pumpkin pie spice substitute is the kind of homemade recipe that makes you wonder why you ever bought the pre-made stuff in the first place.

One afternoon, I decided to tackle this little project. I pulled out my cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves—everything I needed was right in my pantry.

I measured out each spice, and tinkered with how much of each I’d want in my new pumpkin pie seasoning.

After combining everything in a small bowl, I gave it a quick stir and transferred the mix into an empty spice jar I had saved. I like having the twist caps with an open spot for spoons and the hole side for sprinkling, too.

Now, instead of an expensive, store-bought version collecting dust in the cupboard, I have my own pumpkin pie mix ready to go whenever a recipe calls for it.

Whether I’m baking my gluten-free pumpkin bread for a friend or sprinkling some into my morning coffee, this homemade blend is always within reach.

Better than storebought, and less string on my wallet!

FAQs

How do I make my pumpkin pie spice last longer?

To make it last longer, store your pumpkin pie spice in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, like a spice cabinet. Exposure to air, moisture, and heat can cause the spices to lose their flavor over time.

How can I make the pumpkin pie spice stronger?

cinnamon sticks

If you prefer a stronger flavor, try adding a bit more cinnamon or cloves, as those are the most dominant spices. Just be careful with the cloves, as they can easily overpower the rest of the blend.

Can I make my pumpkin pie spice sweeter?

While the recipe doesn’t include sugar, you can add a little powdered sugar to sweeten the mix if you’d like to use it in desserts where sweetness is a key flavor. Just remember, adding sugar will limit its versatility in savory recipes.

How long will homemade pumpkin pie spice stay fresh?

Any homemade spice blend can last for up to a year if stored properly in an airtight container.

In my experience, it lasts a while, and you’ll know if it’s losing its flavor. Give it a smell before each use—if the scent has faded, it’s time to make a fresh batch.

Can I adjust the spices to suit my taste?

Absolutely! The beauty of making your own pumpkin pie spice is that you can customize it. If you like more ginger or prefer to tone down the allspice, feel free to tweak the amounts to suit your taste preferences.

Final Thoughts

Making your own pumpkin pie spice isn’t just a great way to save money—it’s also a fantastic way to bring fresh, bold flavors to your kitchen all year long whenever you want it!

I love being frugal, and I’m so happy to have an even tastier mix to have all year round when I feel like making a latter or muffins in the “off season.”

Whether you’re using it in savory dishes, sweet treats, or even drinks, this simple spice mix delivers on taste and keeps you from reaching for the expensive store-bought jar.

Enjoy adding it to all your favorite snacks and meals, knowing you’re skipping the processed stuff and going homemade!
