Fall Porch Ideas

Fall is my ABSOLUTE favorite season! I love the way the temperature is crisp. There is gorgeous fall foliage on the trees. And of course, the fall decorating of the front porch. We are so lucky to experience all four seasons in New York.

But when it comes to decorating, I am always looking for DIY’s and savvy ways to repurpose items I can use to decorate.

Best Budget Friendly Fall Porch Ideas

Fall Porch Ideas

I searched Pinterest for the best fall porch ideas and DIY’s for you to use for your front entrance. Amazon even has some cheap fall decor ideas you should check out.

Here are 15 incredible fall front porch ideas that are perfect for the upcoming season and cost-effective.

1. Fall Decor Enlarged Maple Leaf Lights

These large maple leaf lights bring a warm, cozy glow to any space. Featuring realistic autumn-colored leaves intertwined with soft LED lights, they’re perfect for draping over a mantel, winding around a banister, or hanging in a window.

Whether you’re decorating for Thanksgiving, a fall gathering, or just want to add seasonal charm to your home, these lights instantly create a festive and inviting atmosphere.

2. Wooden Milk Crate with Pumpkins

A lot of what you see in the pictures below are items that you may have already in your house. A simple wooden milk crate can be stained and weatherproofed for outdoor conditions. The pumpkins are simple and the floral arrangements can be picked up at a thrift store. Perfect for a small front porch and still can invite the fall season.

3. Lanterns Filled with Pumpkins and Gourds or Flameless Candle

So simple, yet so perfect for fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. A decoration that can be set out on the front porch and left for months and still be enjoyed. Very cost effective! Find the lanterns at a thrift shop and fill them with pumpkins, gourds, and pinecones. I found a great set over on Amazon you can use year after year.

4. Harvest Barnwood or Wood Pallet Fall Porch

Look around a garage, barn, or neighborhood to repurpose old wood. It is crazy what some paint can do for wood. Even though there is a lot going on in the picture below, all you need for your front porch is some old wood and a mum plant. Done! Super simple and not expensive at all.

5. Old Chair or Bench and Mums

Nothing says fall more than mums. They are full of color and instantly dress up any space to a fall feeling. Old chairs are so easy to come by. Whether you picked one up at a garage sale or you went to your grandma’s house, you can get a chair to dress up.

6. Stacked Pumpkins in Planters

After the fall season, there are always pumpkins falling off the clearance shelf. Keep this one in mind for next year or head to the dollar store to find pumpkins to stack. You can find your last name initial here to transfer on to the pumpkin. Throw a burlap bow on the top and call it fall.

7. Mums and Pumpkins

Can we just talk about how cute these little pumpkins are? The color combinations in this photo just scream fall! Cut up some cute ribbon to place on top of the stem to tie this front porch look together.

8. Hay Bales and Pumpkins

We are lucky enough to live in a rural-ish area with a lot of farmers around us. By going directly to a farmer, you can get hay bails for cheap! I can normally negotiate to get a bulk set of hay bails for under $10. Dress them up or leave them on their own to complete the look for your front porch.

9. Harvest Wreath

Any wreath placed on a front door instantly makes your front porch more inviting. Find an old wreath and spruce it up with some sunflowers and burlap. This fall front porch idea is the simplest to complete.

10. Cozy Plaid Throw Over a Rocking Chair

Every fall I pull out my favorite plaid blanket like this one and drape it over the rocking chair on our porch. It instantly makes the whole space feel cozy and lived-in. Perfect place to enjoy a mug of coffee or apple cider on crisp fall mornings. Simple, affordable, and oh-so-inviting.

11. Vintage Thermos and Mug Display

One of my favorite ways to decorate the porch is using vintage thermoses and mugs. Keep it on your porch table in the fall along with some enamel mugs. It’s such a great way to add a nostalgic little touch—like you’re about to head out for a football game or apple picking.

12. Bundles of wheat sheaves wrapped with burlap

If you want something rustic and elegant, grab a few bundles of wheat and tie them up with burlap craft ribbon or twine. We’ve tucked them next to our door before, and it made our porch look straight out of a farmhouse magazine. The best part? They last all season without any upkeep.

13. Galvanized Tub with Seasonal Drinks

A galvanized tub isn’t just cute décor—it makes the perfect drink station too. Fill it with apple cider boxes, juice pouches, or mini water bottles, and add a little ice to keep everything cold. The kids can grab a drink after playing outside, and it doubles as festive porch décor for fall gatherings. You can sometimes find these at antique stores, but if not, the galvanized tubs on Amazon work perfectly, too.

14. DIY Scarecrow on the Porch

One year we made a scarecrow like this one with the girls, and it was such a fun family project! All you need are some old jeans, a flannel shirt, and straw or newspaper for stuffing. Sit your scarecrow on a chair or bench with a pumpkin by its side, and you’ve got the cutest fall porch greeter. It brings a touch of whimsy and makes the kids proud to show it off.

15. Apple Basket Display

We love taking the girls to pick apples in the fall, so I love displaying some of our apples in a basket on the porch. Sometimes I’ll mix in a few mini pumpkins, too. It feels very orchard-inspired and adds a sweet pop of color you don’t always see with traditional fall porch décor.

16.  Galvanized Milk Jug with Fall Flowers

I absolutely love using old galvanized milk cans on the porch. They’re tall, rustic, and make such a statement piece. Fill them with dried corn stalks, wheat, sunflowers, or even some faux fall leaves from the craft store. If you don’t have one lying around, check thrift shops or antique stores—you can usually score one pretty cheap.  Can’t find one? Amazon also has a lot of galvanized milk cans at a pretty good price!

17. Vintage Ladder with Fall Decor

Okay, this is one of the easiest of the fall porch ideas especially if you have a smaller porch. Lean a vintage ladder against the wall and decorate each rung with mini pumpkins, lanterns, or even little baskets of leaves. We’ve done this on our porch before and it makes the whole space feel layered and creative without taking up much room.

18. Stripe or Checked Rug on the Porch

Nothing says fall like a plaid or buffalo check rug. Layer it under your welcome mat or spread a larger one across the porch for a bold pop of pattern. The mix of cozy colors and texture instantly ties your whole porch together. Plus, it’s an easy swap that makes a big impact without spending a ton. I grabbed a buffalo check rug on Amazon and it totally transformed the front porch.

19. Hot Cider Bar

Set up a cozy little hot cider bar on your porch this fall. All you need is a tray with mugs, a thermos of warm cider, and a jar of cinnamon sticks or cloves for stirring. The smell alone will make your whole porch feel cozy and inviting. It’s a simple setup, but it feels extra festive for family nights or when neighbors stop by.

20. Pinecone Door Swag

If you want something a little different from the traditional wreath, try a pinecone door swag. It’s basically a bunch of pinecones tied together with twine or ribbon and hung on your front door. You can add a touch of greenery, berries, or even a burlap bow to dress it up. It’s simple, rustic, and feels like a cozy cabin welcome.

21. Mini Wheelbarrow of Gourds

A little wooden wheelbarrow is such a fun way to show off fall colors. Just pile it high with gourds, mini pumpkins, or even a mix of both, and roll it up by your front steps or bench. It adds a playful touch to your porch and gives that charming “fall market” feel without a lot of effort.

22. Indian Corn Swags

Indian corn is one of those classic fall decorations that never goes out of style. You can usually find bundles at farmers markets or even your local grocery store this time of year. Just tie a few ears together with burlap or ribbon and hang them on your door, railing, or porch hook. The colors are so rich and pretty, and the best part—it’ll last all season.

23. DIY Wooden Sign with a Fall Saying

A rustic wooden sign that says “Welcome Fall” or “Give Thanks” makes the porch feel extra inviting. We’ve made our own before with stencils, and it’s a super-easy weekend project. Amazon has adorable options, too, if you don’t feel like DIYing.

24. Rain Boots as a Planter

Take an old pair of rain boots, fill them with mums or faux flowers, and set them by the door. We did this with Kennedy’s outgrown yellow boots, and it turned out so cute. Guests couldn’t stop smiling at them. No old boots lying around? I saw some bright yellow rain boots on Amazon and thought they’d be perfect for this idea.

25. Mason Jar Solar Lights

One of my favorite fall porch ideas is lining the porch floor or walkway with mason jar solar lights for the prettiest fall glow. They charge during the day and automatically light up at night, which makes them super easy to use. The jars give that rustic farmhouse vibe, and the soft glow instantly makes your porch feel cozy and welcoming after dark.

Easy Tips for Decorating Your Fall Porch

Looking for simple ways to pull your fall porch ideas together? These quick tips will help you make the most of your space without spending a ton of time or money. No matter the size of your porch, these little tricks can turn any setup into a cozy, welcoming spot for the season.

1. Play with height.

Mix tall pieces like corn stalks or milk jugs with medium planters and little pumpkins. It makes your porch feel full and layered instead of flat.

2. Pick a color vibe.

Stick to two or three main colors—like orange, gold, and deep red—and repeat them. It keeps everything looking pulled together without trying too hard.

3. Shop your house first.

Before you buy anything in our fall porch ideas, see what you already have—old baskets, chairs, crates. A quick coat of paint or a bundle of mums can totally transform them.

4. Add some glow.

Lanterns, candles, or string lights make your porch cozy at night and super welcoming for guests. Plus, everything looks better lit up.

5. Mix real with faux.

Grab a few real pumpkins or mums for the fresh look, then fill in with faux leaves or florals. That way, your porch lasts all season without constant upkeep.
